Erika Cheng is a compassionate and interactive teacher, and her trauma course is so relevant and needed. As a counsellor and a parent I have gleaned many gems from it which help me in both roles, as well as in my own personal journey. Erika facilitates the sessions in a way that also makes some space for participants to learn from each other, as she weaves together the bigger picture of community healing. She has a deep knowledge of the subject of trauma healing, and a motivating passion for it. I have experienced many, many service providers- at all levels- who dearly lack the information that is contained in this course.
K.C. Scott: Addiction Counsellor and Parent
I have shown the parent DVD, ‘This is Me Now’, to many parents, and have found it extremely helpful. Because this film was not personally directed at the parent, yet illustrated a broad scope of parenting issues that were shown to come from past traumas, my clients felt safe to be open to examining their own reactions and their causes. This film taught the parents to be compassionate to themselves and suggested ways to overcome their difficulties, and thus create a more positive and happy relationship with their children. For example, one mother, taking the lessons from the film seriously while combining it with my directions for creating a relationship, saved her fifteen year old daughter, shifting her from being labelled ‘manic depressive’ and being admitted to a psychiatric hospital to becoming a real pleasure. Trauma begets trauma, and this film helps parents to stop the cycle of trauma by increasing their awareness and supporting their work on themselves.

These DVDs are a synthesis of vital information about how people can heal from and understand the impacts of trauma. They are an exceptional piece of work all health practitioners and change agents should integrate into their practice. Also, those impacted by trauma will find the DVDs a source of hope and a great resource for healing.

As a result of this course, I recognize my triggers and try communicating from a place of awareness of those triggers looking at my feelings without judgment. This usually ends up in healthier communication, I noticed, since it is being received better from the staff/individuals. There has become a feeling of closeness, and a feeling that we are trying to communicate in a healthier way. There is a feeling of lightness here in the agency as a result of this course.

This course is fascinating information presented in an effective fashion. The explanations and class practice make the information real and applicable to daily practices and human interactions. The more the ideas and information are put into practice the more the theory presented proves its inestimable value, in both professional relationships, with students and personal relationships.
